Monster Quest
Located permanently at the Vigo County Public Library 12 Points Branch, Terre Haute, IN
Grand Opening - November 1st 2024
What began as a simple set of line drawings by then four-year-old Harry Bennett has transformed into an exciting, larger-than-life installation that made front-page news! In November 2024, Harry (now six) proudly unveiled three steel sculptures based on his designs at the new 12 Points branch of the local library. Created with the support of his mom, artist Emily Bennett, and a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, this vibrant project brings Harry's artwork to life.
Emily collaborated with her husband, Paul, a mechanical engineering draftsman, who converted Harry’s drawings into detailed blueprints. These blueprints were used by Vigo Machine Shop to craft each steel piece, which Yankee Steel then powder-coated to match the bright colors in Harry's original drawings. Standing 5 feet tall, these three playful monster sculptures were assembled and installed by Emily and Paul, welcoming visitors near the library playground. This joyful installation brings an element of creativity to the library, inviting patrons young and old to experience art in an interactive, accessible way.
As part of the installation's launch, a special scavenger hunt featuring visual replicas of the sculptures has been organized to encourage exploration within the library, adding an engaging twist to the library’s mission of art and discovery!
